Diorskin Star

So, I felt the time was right to try something new in the magical world of foundations, and when you're feeling particularly spendy on a Tuesday night after work, pre-Mexican food and long island ice teas, there's no better time to treat yourself at the Dior counter! I picked up the Diorskin Star foundation.

Previously my foundation favourites have been NARS sheer glow and MAC studio fix fluid, so I was interested to see how this one compared.

First of all I was matched to my shade (020 for reference) by the niftiest little machine I've ever seen! Who knew such wondrous technology existed.

So, onto the product.. the bottle is absolutely gorgeous, as you would expect with Dior! The foundation itself is just as amazing - it goes on like a dream, evens out my skin tone, feels hydrating and lightweight.

As for lasting power, it does stay on pretty well although I'd recommend a primer especially if you're going to be out all day and all night and you want it still looking fresh.

Overall, I'd highly recommend this if you're looking to try something new in the high end foundation market!

Make up treats

My Sunday haul

Since the other day was payday for me, I decided to treat myself to a few bits and pieces... the first being this gorgeous Illamasqua nail varnish in the colour Jo'mina. Can't wait to try this!

I couldn't resist this super cute Island Escape eye shadow palette by Purminerals: they're cream formula and the consistency and colour pay off is amazing! I also love the way the palette looks: like a little set of paints!

I also picked up a Yes to Carrots eye cream and a Physician's Formula mineral concealer, which I will test out and review soon!

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Marshmallow Dreams Maid Cafe!

On Saturday I visited my friend Keara's maid cafe: Marshmallow Dreams Chocolate Love Valentine's Day event, at Cushion and Cake in Glasgow!

It was super cute and a lot of fun. We played games, drank rose tea, ate cupcakes, said some special Japanese magic charms, talked about what gives us "doki doki" *fluttering heartbeat* (unicorns and bubbles)

We also all got to decorate our own chocolate lollipops with glitter which was a cute touch. There was K Pop on the stereo and fun headgear!

It was a beautiful day in the West End and I had an awesome time at the event. I wish maid cafes were a permanent fixture over here! Or that I could visit one in Tokyo! Maybe one day...

Aritgato, Minna-san! ^^

10 simple things that make me happy

1. A beautiful sunset

2. Spending time with my gran. She's 93, and she's my inspiration. She's a wonderful, creative, warm and giving lady who isn't afraid to speak her mind. Right from when I was a little girl, she taught me never to give up on my dreams. She encouraged my artistic side and she made me believe anything was possible.

3. Sending and receiving postcards. There's something so exciting and personal about getting a postcard and I love the feeling it gives- I really want to start sending more to people all over the world, and hopefully get some back!

4. Candles: they instantly make a difference to a room. They provide ambiance, a delicious smell, and looking at them just makes me feel so peaceful!

5. Looking through old photos. Brings back so many memories, and always provides such hilarity!

6. Cooking and baking. Is there anything more satisfying than creating cute and yummy cakes and treats?

7. Drawing. Working in an office, sometimes coming home in the evenings the last thing I want to do is stare at a screen again! If I'm not feeling like reading a book or writing, I'll get my coloured pencils out and sketch. Nothing better to de-stress you, and it's so satisfying to see a piece of work coming together.

8. Spending time with friends. This one speaks for itself. No matter what I do with them - even if it's something silly or small, just talking to them and laughing is the best and cheapest source of happiness you can find.

9. Being organised! I get so much joy out of a tidy home. It clears my mind, gives me focus and allows me to concentrate. I love making lists and writing things down, too. And it gives me an excuse to buy cute stationery, like this wonderful diary from Paperblanks:

10. Discovering: this could encompass travelling, learning, always finding new places, people, songs, movies, books, experiences. There really is nothing more joyous in life that discovering, for a curious girl like me!

The things that make me the happiest in life really are the small things. This post has been quite general but next time I'll do one focusing on more specific things that made me smile!

What kind of things make you happy?

Step back in time

Yesterday I went for a walk to Pollok Park (again) can't get enough of that place recently! It was a lovely, sunny Winter's day and great for a leisurely stroll, and a wander round the Burrell Collection.
It's been so long since I've been there - I love looking at all the exhibits. There are so many beautiful things from days gone by that inspire me and take my breath away.

I love Ancient History: there's something so intriguing and magical about it because it feels like another fantastical world that you have to piece together in your imagination with little wonderful fragments. My favourite periods are Ancient China and Egypt: I like the strange beauty of it.

I loved the intricacies of this silk woven hat! I can't believe people used to wear this to bed!

Wishing I had a cup of tea...

I really liked the shape of this bird! I would like to see it move...

Electric Gardens

This evening I visited the Electric Gardens, an outdoor event currently happening in the Botanic Gardens in Glasgow's West End. It was eerie, magical and beautiful...

These saxophone players were all decked out with lights too...

I'm pretty sure I remember this ice cream cone from the Summer festival! Looks a bit out of place in all the ice and snow.. something rather sad about that

This place reminded me of a fairy glen:

More ice cream! A fab lolly this time...

I loved the effects of the lights moving on the trees - it made it look like the branches were dancing to the music...

This girl was so talented and put on an amazing display. She reminded me of a little fire faerie!

I love this photo of the moon rising behind Kibble Palace:

Finished off the night warming up with drinks in Hillhead Bookclub, lovely!

If you're in Glasgow and you get the chance to visit the Electric Gardens event while it's on, you definitely should! If you don't mind braving the cold, it's well worth it.

p.s. You can save yourself a few pounds just now: buy your tickets from on itison.com
p.p.s I would recommend a warm jumper and a hot drink or a stiff cocktail following this!
